<p>In 2012, Varun Dhawan made his official Bollywood debut in Student of the Year, directed by Karan Johar. Alongside Alia Bhatt and Siddharth Malhotra, he made his acting debut. The argument around nepotism in the business was further exacerbated by Varun and Alia’s debuts, which received a lot of positive feedback. <p>“I knew (I wanted to be an actor), but I don’t think anyone else believed it,” Varun remarked. My mom and my dad both made it very plain to me that he would never launch me. He won’t assist you in becoming who you want to be, therefore you must assist yourself.</p>
<p>“I now make it a point to let people know how hard I’ve worked. What ki nepotism, how it in your first few years when you start the film industry? Your entry was very simple. I didn’t get the projects I had in mind when I finished my first movie, anywhere, said Varun.</p>
<p>“Raju Hirani didn’t come and offer me my next film,” the actor said. Sanjay Leela Bhansali didn’t come and give me the lead role in his upcoming movie. To make it work, I had to really fight to first get filmmakers to come and sign me, then sign those films. I went to Sriram Raghavan’s office for an audition for 20 days in order to persuade him that I am the appropriate person for the role. I don’t go through a PR stunt to get it out. Since I’m being really honest, people don’t ask me either.</p>
<p>The next question was if he has ever concealed his relationship to David Dhawan. People often claim that you’re David Dhawan’s kid so you’ll get job, Varun remembered one such occurrence. ‘Am I not talented?’ I pondered. I began holding auditions under a different identity. I went to Life of Pi’s audition and was almost cast as Dhobi Ghat, but Kiran Rao learned that I am his son, and Aamir informed my father.</p>
<p>Varun said that he would dress up as “Rajesh” or “Ramesh” for auditions, and that he even managed to get an advertisement for a cola brand. When Varun, a 14-year-old youngster, received the advertisement on his own merit, he said that it strengthened his self-belief.</p>
