<p>The marital rape scene in the actor Mehreen Pirzada’s first OTT series “Sultan of Delhi” has been mischaracterized as a sex scene in certain sectors of the mainstream media and social media, she claims. <p>“‘Sultan of Delhi’ had a sequence that showed a violent marital rape. It hurts me to see how often in the media, a serious subject like marital rape is referred to as a “sex scene,” the 27-year-old actress remarked.</p>
<p>She continued, “It disturbs me that some media outlets and users of social media have picked up on this. These people should understand that they too have sisters and daughters, and I pray to God that they never have to experience such trauma in their own lives because the mere thought of such brutality and violence against women is abhorrent.</p>
<p>Pirzada portrays Sanjana, Arjun Bhatia’s love interest in the series, which had its debut on Disney+ Hotstar last week. Pirzada is portrayed by actor Tahir Raj Bhasin. Milan Luthria is the show’s director.</p>
<p>The actor said that every member of the crew acted with the utmost professionalism when “some very difficult scenes” were being filmed. Be it Mahalakshmi, Sanjana, or Honey, I want to give my all for my audience as an artist, Pirzada stated.</p>
<p>The Supreme Court had previously said that it will list petitions on the subject of marital rape for hearing in the middle of October. The petitions highlight the legal issue of whether a husband is immune from being charged with rape if he coerces his adult wife into having sex.</p>
