The film’s producer, Jordan Peele, introduced it on stage, saying that it was inspired by the mythology of Lord Hanuman. Patel entered the stage to riotous acclaim after the movie. The crowd apparently gave the newbie filmmaker a two-minute standing ovation; this was the first time a film at the festival had gotten this honor.

The actor and new director seemed to be overwhelmed by the response, as he was spotted wiping tears from his eyes. Speaking to the crowd, Patel expressed his enduring love for the action genre and disclosed how his grandpa had introduced him to the stories of Lord Hanuman from the Hindu epic Ramayan.
I was really captivated by him. For my father and many others in my family, he has served as a symbol. Hanuman may be seen at any Indian gym together with actors like Arnold Schwarzenegger and Ronnie Coleman. During my childhood, I was captivated by the imagery of an incredibly strong creature who could split his chest apart and carry mountains with one hand. It brought to mind Superman’s logos. “I thought this was amazing, and I wish more people knew about it,” said Patel.
The actor made a point of saying that he wanted the story to be based on fact. He mentioned his love of Bruce Lee films as another source of inspiration. “When you delve deeper, he’s a character who has lost faith in himself and needs to be reminded of his true essence,” he said.
“My goal was to investigate the caste system in India, where the strong and affluent rule over the poor, making use of religion for their own selfish ends. The idea of heaven is another,” Patel said.
Patel recognized the actors and crew of the movie by inviting them on stage. In addition to Patel, the film stars Sharlto Copley, Sobhita Dhulipala, Pitobash, Ashwini Kalsekar, Adithi Kalkunte, Sikandar Kher, and Makarand Deshpande.
Critics at SXSW gave the movie fantastic reviews shortly after its premiere, praising it as an “amazing debut film” and hinting that it is “loaded with bone-breaking violence.” On Rotten Tomatoes, the film received a pristine 100% rating when it debuted. The film has received praise for both its compelling action scenes and Patel’s acting.

In “Monkey Man,” which is set in Mumbai, Patel plays Kid, a guy who is motivated to seek revenge against the dishonest people who killed his mother and continue to mistreat the underprivileged. The movie is slated to open in theaters on April 5.
